1,135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.

As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I <3 Sam Green” T-shirt Harper promised she’d have on.

To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.

My Review of Click to Subscribe

I was approached a few weeks ago by the author to review this book. I love my YA books and since I hadn’t read one that wasn’t a paranormal in quite a while, I decided to give this one a chance. The story line sounded really good. I am SO glad that I agreed. This book is a hidden gem among the giants in the industry.

This book took me back to high school in an instant. I wouldn’t say I was nerdy but I wasn’t part of the “in crowd” of course that depend on what you consider to be the “in crowd”. I was in marching band and I went to our vocational school for Information System. Yeah I was a computer geek so I could totally relate to West in this book. Of course vlogs didn’t exist when I was in high school… sigh… did I just date myself?

The characters in this book are awkward but that is exactly what high school is all about. Not really knowing who you are or what you want to do with your life.

I loved West’s character he was a little broken which always pulls at my heartstrings… When West experiences tragedy he turns to the internet and starts pouring out his thoughts through his vlog. It’s an outlet for him and a healthy one at that. So many teenagers turn to things that aren’t so healthy. West quickly found that his vlog not only gave him an outlet but brought a subscriber into his life that helped him heal, laugh and was his perfect match.

West and Harper had been communicating for quite some time privately, when she finally suggested meeting West couldn’t have been more excited! I was excited for him but also a little torn because I didn’t want to see him get hurt. If she didn’t turn out to be everything he hoped I was afraid he would be crushed. He kept Harper a secrect from the one person that he had trusted since childhood. His best friend Cat had no idea about his vlog or Harper and he was planning to keep it that way. But the thing about secrets is that they always come out and Cat has one of her own, and it’s a BIG one!

I think West handles the situation the way any teenager would have. Complete and utter confusion. Cat and West have such a fun and loving friendship their banter made me laugh hysterically… I was worried that West would never be able to see past their friendship and realize how perfect he and Cat would be for each other. Don’t they say that the person that you are with should be your best friend? Well you’ll have to read to find out what happens cause telling you would spoil it…

Even if you aren’t a big YA fan I think that you will enjoy this witty, sweet and heartfelt book. There were a few things I would have liked to see added to this story, a little more about West’s Dad and Cat’s parents but that didn’t stop the story from being good. It was well written and for a debut novel being self published it was very clean. I give Click to Subscribe my seal of approval and 4 very bright stars…

“I knew you were running the first time I saw you…”

Devon didn’t have a game plan when she decided to leave St. Louis on a Chicago-bound train for the summer. Just a reason. One she couldn’t share with anyone.

Not Hadley, her best friend from college, who lets her stay in the guest bedroom; no questions asked. Or Brennan, the bartender at the local restaurant they frequent, who she actively tries to avoid. Or Garrett, Hadley’s boyfriend, who befriends her when she has no one else to turn to.

“I just didn’t know what you were running from….”
Desperate to hide at all costs, Devon plunges into her new life in the city. Everyone around her starts to reveal sides of themselves Devon never expected. And just when she starts to get comfortable, her world flips upside down…

“…but I think all along you were running toward me.”
4 lives.
All connected.
All with secrets that just keep following them.

Sweat beaded on Devon’s temple, and she wiped it off her forehead and out of her eyes. The party had been going all night, and it was nice to loosen up and get lost in the music and dancing. She hadn’t partied in so long, and she couldn’t resist when Amy had actually invited her out. Either she was getting over her hatred for the new girl, or Devon had just been there long enough that she wasn’t considered the new girl any longer.

People were packed into the club shoulder to shoulder, many even closer than that. The music was ear-splittingly loud. Crazy lights traversed the warehouse-sized room, and they alternated to strobes slowing everything down to slow motion. She hadn’t had much to drink, but she was dizzy with dehydration and the energy in the room. Her tank top was sticking to her back, and she had long since pulled her hair up off of her neck into a ponytail.

God, I need another drink, she thought.

Her eyes moved around the room taking in as much as she could from her vantage point. It really only ended up being the two feet encircling her. Amy had to be somewhere inside the building. How had she lost track of her?

Well, she knew how. There were too many damn people in the place. It was easy to lose track of one person, especially when that person was as short as Amy. Still, she should have done better. She didn’t like being alone in dark places. Whether she was surrounded by people or in a back alleyway at night, she was still alone.

She craned her head to look for her, but was having no luck. It felt like more and more people were being crushed into the space. How was this in line with fire code? Surely the place would be shut down soon.

Walking in the direction of the bar, Devon tried to find Amy in the crowd. Seriously it was getting harder and harder to maneuver through. She was literally having to elbow people out of the way. This wasn’t okay, and it wasn’t fun. They shouldn’t let any more people in. Things could get out of control.

Devon looked up over the heads of people in front of her and sighed. It felt like she was never going to reach the bar, and there was a huge line anyway. She thought maybe the bathroom would be a better alternative…at least there she would have some privacy.

She turned to walk the other direction and slammed right into a meaty guy in front of her, who glared at her as she lost her balance and tumbled to the floor. Someone stepped on her hand as she tried to get up. Devon swore and hissed pulling her hand away from the ground where someone else could do the same thing. She stood as best she could, cradling her aching hand. It wasn’t easy pushing through people with one hand pressed between her breasts to keep from someone else smashing into it. All it did was cause people to unknowingly smash into other parts of her. She hadn’t made it more than a few feet toward the bathroom, and she had already been elbowed in the arm, gotten her foot stepped on, and been drunkenly body slammed knocking the breath out of her. The club was getting dangerous.

A space opened in the crowd, and she took advantage, rushing forward through the throng of people. It took her closer to the bathroom but not close enough. Then she felt it. Eyes on the back of her head. She didn’t even know how it was possible. There were hundreds of people in the place. No one could be focusing that intently on her, but she could swear that someone was watching her.

Navigating the world alone is all Josephine Geroux has ever known. Life altering tragedy struck early on for her. She endured an admirable struggle through her youth and learned the hard way how to adapt and survive. She managed to arrive at adulthood in one piece in spite of it all.

After such chaos, maintaining a life free of complications is a priority for her. Everything changed when a man with amber eyes came through her door and claimed her heart. She fell hard in more ways than one. The pull between Jo and Damon seemed like fate bringing things full circle.

With another devastating loss looming, Jo fights to hold on to the very thing that brought her to her knees. She finds herself torn between a promising future and clinging to a devastating past.

But that’s not the most worrisome problem on her hands.

She must convince more than just herself to let the past stay in the past, where it belongs, but on her journey to find closure and resolution, she does the exact opposite. An old wound caused by a heinous act becomes exposed for what it is. The truth is catastrophic and Jo is helpless, watching as the ruins of her fragile world endure more turmoil.

Can something conceived from tragedy and malice end well? Can something so completely poisoned conquer adversity? Jo is left to make a decision; accept the circumstances she finds herself in or fight with unwavering ferocity to restore what has been damaged.

*Restore Me is the second book in the Wrecked series*

My Review of Restore Me

Once again I am at a loss on where to start… So many crazy things happened in this second installment of the Wrecked Series… If you have read the first book keep reading this review… If you haven’t then you probably should stop… GO GET WRECK ME and then read this one… You won’t be SORRY!

When we left Jo and Damon it was pretty heart breaking to see what had happened.  A misunderstanding turned into a much larger problem and left Jo once again in complete anguish.  Could this really all be happening to her again?  This poor girl had endured so much heartache in her young life.  You want to hold onto her and tell her that it’s going to be ok… Any form of comfort to help easy her pain.

I can tell you at the start of this book I was completely perplexed… even having read the synopsis before hand, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this book was going to take a completely different direction!  I was a mess of tears and I think that I probably even told JL that I was a complete mess and that she totally was screwing with my head… her replies were mostly LOL… ARGH!!!!  I on the other hand didn’t find it so funny…

Writing this review is hardest because anything that I say would be too much… I will tell you that Jo uncovers some BIG BIG HUGE secrets and now fully understands the depth of what has happened in the past… I can’t tell you who’s past but know that these things grip her heart and practically rip it out of her chest… Jo struggles on a daily basis in this book and it made my heart hurt for her.  She’s such a fire cracker in the first book and this book seemed to put out that spark… When these secrets are revealed you will want to hurt someone, PHYSICALLY!  The lifetime of hurt and pain inflicted by one individual is almost too much to witness…

I do so love Damon’s grandmother that woman is hysterical and the lengths she will go to at times are just too much fun!  You’ll see what I mean in the book if you haven’t already read it, she will make you laugh like crazy the woman is a total nut…

There are some really touching moments and the last few chapters of the book really will warm your heart, shock the hell out of you and probably make you a little teary eyed… Yeah I cried AGAIN!  I seriously am a total sap!  My only complaint is being left hanging again with one hell of a revelation that left me completely stupefied!!!!  I can’t wait for the third installment of this one to see what happens and how this new revelation affects everyone…

I really enjoyed this book, even more so then the first one, which is a great thing because a lot of time sequels lack in substance but JL does a F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C job of holding my attention and keeping the story moving forward! I give this one 4.5 stars

Lost For You by BJ Harvey (Lost #2)

Expected release: August 2013

What would you do if you were told that everything you had ever believed in and everything you had ever known, was a lie?

Elle’s life is altered forever after an unexpected phone call and an unwelcome visitor. Trying to put her life back together, Brax’s last words continue to echo through her mind. Why she is being followed and why is she suddenly in danger? The fact that Brax knew about it all and still left her alone, breaks her fragile heart all over again.

Brax will never forgive himself for leaving Elle at a time when she needed him the most, even if he believed it was the only way to protect her. As he makes his way back to her life, he is determined to win her back, regain her trust and help rebuild her for the second time. His return proves he is the same man, yet Elle sees in his eyes a haunted look she knows all too well.

When a confession leaves Elle reeling, her entire life unravels around her. She begins to understand that the people she trusts the most have put her in grave danger and the people who have been protecting her actually want to cause her harm.

Elle soon discovers that the old adage is true, you have to become lost before you can be found.

Her whole body starts to shake, so I pull her close to me again. Her shoulders are slumped over and she grabs my shirt, gripping so tight that her knuckles are almost white with strain. Once the shaking subsides I shift back, placing my fingers under her chin so that her eyes meet mine. Her eyes are red and puffy, like she’s been crying for days.

I’ve never seen her like this. So low, so broken, so shut down.

“Baby, let me look after you. We’ll talk about everything tomorrow. I’ll tell you everything you want to know, but tonight I want to get you out of these wet clothes, wrap you up in my arms and comfort you. Will you let me do that, hon? I need you to let me help you.”

Unable to form words, Elle slowly nods, never once dropping her gaze. I strip her wet tank top off her, wrapping her towel around her chest as I pull her off the counter, carefully placing her feet on the kitchen floor. I yank her shorts down her still wet legs until she’s standing naked and exposed in front of me.

There is nothing sexual about this moment.

I take her hand and lead her into our bedroom, walking over to her drawers and pulling out a new top and pajama pants for her. I kneel down in front of her, lifting her feet one at a time as I put her legs into the pants and pull them back up to her waist. Not once has she lifted her head. She appears mesmerized by my every move.

Leading her over to the bed, I sit down on the edge and pull her into my lap as I hold the tank top in front of her. She puts her arms inside the top and I pull it the rest of the way down her body. I grab the towel and start drying her hair. I’m taking my time, wanting her to feel cherished and adored, hoping she’ll see the sincerity in my actions and not just my words, I wrap my arms around her and carry her into our bed.

“I’ll just be a minute, sweetheart,” I murmur, placing a tender kiss her forehead. I make my way into the bathroom, stripping off my wet clothes and wrapping a towel around my waist. Walking back into the bedroom, I grab a pair of boxers from the closet and put them on before crawling into bed beside her.

I move my arm around her shoulders and pull her tight into my side. She still hasn’t said a single word since I arrived. I start tracing shapes on her arm as I hold my lips to her forehead. She lays her head on my shoulder, moving one of her legs across mine as her heat cloaks me.

This is where I’m meant to be.

Where I hope Elle wants me to stay.

Give & Take #2

The emotional rollercoaster of the USA TODAY bestselling Give & Take series by Kelli Maine continues with MJ and Maddie’s story!

Maddie Simcoe knows the devastation that comes from keeping secrets. Now, she’s desperate to move on from the heartbreak that almost destroyed her — trading wild passion that once made her knees weak for a life of comfortable stability. But before Maddie can start over, she must return home to put the past behind her once and for all…

When Maddie blows back into MJ Rocha’s life, nothing will stop him from proving to her that walking away from him was the biggest mistake of her life — not even the engagement ring she wears. Her every look, every touch tells MJ that the fire that once raged between them still burns hot, and MJ won’t give up until Maddie gives in to the inferno.

Trapped by a hurricane roaring through Turtle Tear Island, MJ and Maddie find shelter in each others’ arms. While the lightning flashes, MJ and Maddie are helpless to fight bonds of desire that tie them together. But just as they’re about to surrender to the torturous longing that consumes them both, the storm unleashes violent secrets from MJ’s past…secrets that could wash away all MJ and Maddie’s hopes of forever…

Excerpt from Taken By Storm

When Maddie told him on the path earlier that she wanted five kids and then tried to play it off, he knew she wasn’t joking. Growing up, she’d always wanted brothers and sisters. He had too. Being alone in the world was one of the reasons they clung together even though they fought all the time, like Sam and Holly. They’d talked about having kids someday, a big family so their kids would always have each other, always have someone to rely on.

Five kids. He could see it now. She’d probably end up with five girls, all with that bushy black hair and fiery blue eyes of hers.

One of the reasons he fought with guys his age, like the idiots on his baseball team—ex-baseball team—was because he couldn’t relate to their trivial, bullshit lives. They were all shallow douchebags who probably never had a thought about spending the rest of their lives with a woman who made them feel whole. A woman who was home and family and future.

Yeah, he was young and so were those other guys, but he knew what mattered in life and what he wanted. He wanted what he didn’t have growing up. A home. A family. He thought he’d have it with Maddie, but something came between them. He had to know what it was—what to focus his aggression on. What to beat the hell out of to get her back.
He bit the side of his cheek until he drew blood to get his head away from soul-sucking thoughts of Maddie having someone else’s kids.

Holly brought her rod back and MJ ducked. She swung it forward over her shoulder and let the line out over the water. “Nice,” he told her.

MJ shaded his eyes with his hand and watched Holly’s bobber land. His gaze found Maddie, who was lowering herself into a chair across from Rachael at a patio table under a tan umbrella beside the boathouse. Her dark hair blew out behind her with a gentle breeze that shook the saw grass on the bank. There were times, like right then, when he was struck numb by how beautiful she was.

My Review of Taken By Storm
5 stars for another turbulent, twisting tale in the Give & Take Series….
I was so “Taken” (pun intended) by the beginning of this series.  From the first words in Taken to the last words we were left with in No Takebacks, I was left breathless, and wanting more…  Kelli’s writing in Taken was unique the POV like no other book I’d ever read, and the storyline was even more unique… She exceeded boundaries of what is “normal” and acceptable, pushing limits in every aspect. From beginning to end I was captivated by Rachael and Merrick’s story.  I suspected nothing less in Taken by Storm with MJ and Maddie.  What I got was a beautiful continuation of this series and further insight into the Rocha family.

At the end of No Takebacks Rachael had left Turtle Tear to go to Enzo Rocah (asshat as I like to call him) to discover a secret that was harbored from Merrick for the last 20 years.  When Rachael delivers the news Merrick disappears from Turtle Tear leaving Rachael confused and Merrick Roach Jr. brokenhearted.  After 20 years MJ has wanted nothing more then to have a real father in his life.  Wanted to be part of the family, but his worst fear was confirmed that when his father found out about him he didn’t want him… But things aren’t always what the seem and soon MJ will learn that there is more to Merrick Roach then he ever imagined.

Book 2 in the Give & Take series follow the story of MJ Rocah.  MJ has been living in a hidden world in and out of board schools being hidden away from his father.  While he spent summers at the Rocah Estate he formed a friendship with Maddie Simcoe.  Maddie and MJ formed a bond as children and it eventually turned into more.  But like everyone in his life Maddie leaves, with no explanation and doesn’t return…

Until she does… The secrets and the reason behind her leaving has torn her apart, she regrets leaving and coming back all at the same time. Enzo Rocha knows no boundaries when it comes to putting fear in people so Maddie left to protect the people she loved mostTheir reunion isn’t heart and flowers and the anger that MJ harbors for her leaving brings angst like you’ve never seen to the pages of this book.  Push and pull, then Give & Take is exactly what this book is about… MJ pushes Maddie and Takes what he wants and Maddie pulls away repeated live before she Gives it freely. There are so many secrets lying in wait, and just when MJ believes that he has convinced her to stop pulling away, lightning strikes.  It all happens so fast it will make your head spin!

And… Just when you think that you have this figured out Kelli adds a whole new level of mystery and deceit… Enzo Rocha is a man that is NOT to be trusted and he proves in more ways then one that his power over his family is strongBut now that Merrick knows the secrets his father has hidden away, nothing will stop him from bringing the man down… The question is WHERE IS ENZO ROCHA???

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this story, it kept me guessing, made me want to smack Maddie and MJ more times then I can count… The one constant character that I adore is Rachael, she is cool and calm and really plays a great role in this turbulent, and touching reunion… I cried, laughed and gasped for breath at times reading this one. I‘ve told Kellie that very, very bad things need to happen to Enzo Rocah in the future…

Kelli has built a solid foundation for the future books in this series and I am dying to get my hands on the next one… sigh… June can’t get here soon enough!!!! I highly recommend this book and if you haven’t read the first two in the series get them all today and catch up… You won’t regret it!

“There is a vulnerability there, hovering just below the surface. And I want to pick at it until I expose it. Then I want to kiss it.”

Two years ago, Emily Burnham, had an epiphany about the shallowness of her life.  And she made it her mission to become a different person…a better woman.  Out from under the controlling thumb of her mother, Emily is tasting the real world for the first time.  And she likes it.

Nixon Caldwell has served his time in the Marine Corps, surviving two brutal tours in Afghanistan. He is back home, surrounded by what he likes best…isolation.  It’s certainly the easiest way to avoid confrontation of the consuming guilt that is weighing him down.

When an accident brings Emily and Nix together, he soon learns he is not the master of his own fate. Struggling with his own pain, Nix tries to guard himself against Emily’s charms.  He wants her in his bed, but he doesn’t want her in his heart.

Having grabbed life by the horns, Emily wants it all.  But is she willing to accept just the small part of himself that Nix is offering?  Can she reach the part of his soul that he has deemed to be Off Limits?

This book is the follow up novel to Off Sides by Sawyer Bennett. It can be read as a stand-alone.

Tonya’s Review of Off Limits

Sweet Little Emily is tired of taking orders and being told what to do and how to dress. And now shes changed her outlook on life and is headed in the right direction. Until an accident and an interesting turn of events send her right in the path of the brooding, yet sexy, Nixon Caldwell. Nix has no desire to be involved with anyone or anything. He enjoys his solitude and his work. It keeps his mind off his past and his failures. But with Emily hanging around it keeps getting harder and harder to keep his distance even though he knows he should. A broken ex-Marine is no good for the Senators Daughter, but Emily isn’t about to let Nix make that decision for her.

What a great book!!! I really liked Emily and I think her personality really came through the pages of this book. She is a sweet girl who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. She has some serious issues with her parents but doesn’t let that hold her back from doing what she wants and choosing her own life. Once she meets the stubborn Nix and sees the pain in those green eyes all she wants to do is make it go away. Nix is hot in that brooding, broken sort of way. He gives off that vibe that says he doesn’t really want to be bothered with people. He would rather be left to wallow in his own self-pity and fight his demons alone. He has a lot to deal with and she just seems to get him and doesn’t ever push too far. He, of course, doesn’t even realize what’s happening until it’s too late.

I love how Emily and Nix play off of each other. They are the perfect mix of right and wrong to make an interesting couple. I even found myself wanting to hug Nix a few times.  What starts off as an innocent deal, ends up being exactly what they both needed. One accident, a psycho-stalker ex-boyfriend with a secret, mommy issues, a roommate with a funny name, and war hero with guilt complex and you have one pretty awesome story!!

I definitely have to give Off Limits 4 stars!!

Title: Mirror of Shadows
Author:  T. Lynne Tolles
Release date: September 1, 2012
 Genre: paranormal mystery romance
Age Group: New Adult

Ella McKaye returns home for her grandmother’s funeral to find she’s inherited a ton of money and a run down mansion she never knew existed, called Grey Manor. Her greedy mother is appalled when the will stipulates specifically that Ella can’t give her any of the inheritance. She quickly throws Ella out of her home forcing her to take up immediate residence in the spooky old mansion.

Within minutes of entering her new home she has a strange interaction with a creepy old mirror in the main hallway and the ghostly inhabitants of the past get more and more agitated the longer Ella’s there. Nearly fatal back to back accidents make Ella start to wonder if she’s angered some ghost or if there is something more sinister at work.

Will Ella unravel the deadly mystery before she becomes a ghost herself? Or will fate take another one of the Grey ancestors to the grave.

What inspired you to write Mirror of Shadows?

Nothing in particular, just that almost every old house has a huge ancient gaudy looking mirror in it. I like to wonder about things like, how many interesting life changing events happened in front of that mirror over the years. A relic from the past must see all kinds of things in its lifetime. Given my affinity for the paranormal it’s fun to think of it as a mute object being passed down from relative to relative and experiencing all that a family has endured – the good and the bad.

A girl.
A coma.
A life she can’t remember.

When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she’s been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can’t remember them. She can’t remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can’t remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the ‘old her’ makes her start to wish she’d never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he’s dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.

Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

The next couple of weeks brought plenty of action and events. I focused harder on the therapy and tried to focus less on Mason. He seemed to be doing the same. I had renewed vigor, which led to stamina, which led to more workouts, which led to exhaustion, which led to tons of sleep, which led to healing, which led to me walking.

This simple task, this simple thing that we all take for granted, that’s so cute and monumental when a baby takes his first steps, but these first steps were so much more than that. Though I cried like a baby, I wasn’t one. And though my mother cooed and fawned over me (because I had invited them that day to come because I just knew that day was going to be the day) I wasn’t a toddler. I was me. I was finally getting a little piece of myself back. And though I tried so hard not to, my eyes drifted to the one person in the room that I knew would understand all this better than anyone else.

Mason’s eyes were already on me from across the parallel walking bars. This time, I didn’t shy away from his gaze. I knew that our terms were shaky, but so was I, and I needed the stability of my lifeline. As our gazes collided, I expected a smile and happiness, but I didn’t expect the level of pride and utter joy to be so prominent. The man was bursting at the seams with it. It filled his face and the smile he wore was the beautiful one that made me feel like everything was going to be OK.
His lips parted and even in the loud room, I could still hear his breath. He said quietly, “You did it, Em.” He moved forward and touched my arm. It was the first time he had touched me in weeks that had nothing to do with therapy. “I’m so proud of you.”
As his fingers circled my elbow, and I tried not to shiver in his grasp, I asked softly, knowing the answer, “You didn’t believe that I was going to walk again some day?”
“Of course I did.” He smiled wider. “But today was the first time that you’ve ever believed it.”
He was right. Having faith and having hope were not the same thing, and I was just now understanding that.
