Author’s Note: SAVOR YOU takes place during the events of DEVOURED.

Kylie Wolfe and bassist Wyatt McCrae have been bad for each other for the last several years, but it’s impossible for them to end their toxic push and pull. Not when their attraction is constantly fueled by lust and proximity—she’s her older brother’s Lucas’s assistant and Wyatt is his best friend and band mate.

So when Your Toxic Sequel makes a move to record a new album in Nashville, Kylie decides to make the latest break with Wyatt official by getting the hell out of town. She’ll spend a week in New Orleans. A week to immerse herself in the Mardi Gras scene. One week to not think about the last time she was in New Orleans, seven years ago with Wyatt. Seven days where she won’t have to see Wyatt every day just to fall ridiculously in love with him all over again—where, if she wants to, she can have a normal, no-strings attached fling that won’t end in heartbreak.

Too bad Wyatt ruins everything by showing up, as gorgeous and demanding and awful for her as ever.

Wyatt refuses to let Kylie give up on him. Not without reminding her why they both fell so far and hard in the first place. Not without making her savor the good memories and what could be their last chance with each other.

I’ve been unsure about many things in my life except for one thing, that I have always loved him. Every single minute of every single day that I have been on this earth, my heart has belonged to him. It has never been a question, never a doubt. The love had taken on many different forms over the years, but it had always been a constant.

Everyone has their definition of love. There have been countless songs sung about it. A gazillion books, articles, and poems written about it. There are experts on love who will tell you how to get it, keep it, and get over it.

We’re led to believe love is complicated. It’s not the love that’s complicated. It’s all the crap that we attach to it and put in front of it that makes it difficult. If you’re smart, you’ll realize this before it’s too late and simplify

Amanda Kelly spent her entire life trying to control every aspect of it, while striving for perfection. Her obsession with being perfect, along with her feelings of worthlessness, consumed her. The one thing she thought was perfect in her life was the bond she shared with her best friend, Noah.

Everything was going according to her life plan until she woke up one day and realized she had fallen in love with him. The one thing she couldn’t control was the affect he had on her. Noah had the power to give her one hundred lifetimes of happiness, which also gave him the power to completely devastate her. He was the one thing in her life that was perfect, but she couldn’t allow herself to have him.

Her life begins to unravel. Events take over and force her to let go of her dreams and desires. She needs to realize that a person cannot control the events in their life, only their reaction to them…but will it be too late for her to save her relationship with her best friend? Present Perfect is a story of how past events have present consequences and how perfect your present could be if you stopped fighting and just allowed it to happen.

Alternate POV from Noah

I was a little unsteady as I climbed into Tweet’s window. I had been drinking for the past two hours, ever since she left me. I thought I’d be okay for a few hours without her by my side. She had been with me constantly since it happened. The second she walked out of the house and out of sight I fell apart. I thought the feeling would pass, that I would be able to pull myself together in a matter of minutes, but I was wrong. I only intended to have a drink or two, but ended up drowning myself. I needed to be by her. I needed to touch her, hear her voice, and breathe in the scent of raspberry and vanilla. I needed all of her.

Once I was through the window and in her room, I stumbled half way to her bed. Tweet reached out and grabbed my arm, keeping me from falling flat on my face, and then helped me sit down on her bed. A surge of relief flowed through me the second her hand touched my bare arm. She stilled the chaos that was happening in my life right now and gave me a sense of peace.

Reaching out, I grabbed her hips, and quickly pulled her into a tight hug. Tweet’s bed was pretty high up. Standing in front of me while I sat brought her chest to my eye level. Without saying anything, she wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me close. She began running her fingers through my hair. Tightening my hold, I closed my eyes and soaked her in.
“I wish I could take your pain away,” she whispered into my hair.
There was no other place on this planet I wanted to be than here with Tweet, but I needed more. I needed all of her. My fingers started to slowly move underneath her shirt as I turned my face and began nuzzling the space between her tits. It was late and she was dressed for bed in a pair of long pajama pants and a baby doll t-shirt. I could tell through her shirt how hard her nipples were already. She wanted me as much as I wanted and needed her.
Tweet tried to step back, which only increased my hold. My eyelids slowly opened and I shifted my gaze up, locking eyes with her. The look that passed between us conveyed that she wanted to take my pain away as much as I wanted her to.
Our breathing became heavier. I held her gaze and I began running my lips over her tits, moving back and forth between the two, kissing them over the material. My skin was on fire, every hair was standing straight up, and I was so hard it was painful, but it was the good kind of pain.
Craving the taste of her skin, my lips moved down until I found the small spot of exposed skin right above her hip bone. I noticed it when she stepped in front of me earlier and my mouth had been watering since. Her fingers curled around my hair and a slight gasp escaped her when I began to circle my tongue around her cute navel and then dip it in deep. My hands slid down her back, landing on her ass that fit perfectly in my palms, just like I knew it would.
My lips traveled slowly up her torso, gently sucking and licking her blazing skin. I had never tasted anything so perfect. I stopped for a second, thinking I had heard her say something, but then continued tasting her.
“Your skin is so soft and sweet,” I mumbled against her stomach.
“We can’t do this,” she whispered.
I felt her fingers leave my hair. She slid her hands down and landed on top of mine that were glued to her ass. She tried to remove them, but I had no intention of letting her. I kept moving up her body, ignoring her extremely mild retreat. Tweet stayed in her head a lot. She was an over thinker. I didn’t want to think right now, I just wanted to feel her and I wanted her to do the same. I brushed my lips along her collarbone then nibbled my way to the spot right beneath her ear that I knew drove her crazy.
My teeth grazed the area as I whispered, “I need you, Tweet. You’re the only one I want. Every time I’m with her, I think of you. I need to be inside of you so bad. Please don’t make me leave.”
I knew it made me sound like an asshole admitting that when I was with Brooke, I thought about Tweet. I thought about Tweet with all the girls I had been with. I never meant to disrespect Brooke. It’s not her fault she’s not the one I want. I’ve tried to focus when we’ve had sex, but Tweet always pops into my head.
“Noah, you’ve been drinking and you’re hurting. You’re not able to think straight. Plus, you have a girlfriend. You’re not that guy. You don’t cheat,” she said.
I suddenly felt reality crash in on me along with a ton of guilt. She was right. I didn’t want my first time with Tweet to be when one of us was drunk. Plus, I owed it to Brooke not to cheat on her. When Tweet and I get together I want it to be right. And no matter how many times she pushes me away, I know we will eventually be together. We have to be.

Jenn’s Review of Present Perfect

I have to say for another first time author I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was. It did start out a little slowly for me and there was a ton of back and forth with the characters were they going to be together weren’t they going to be together. Watching her push Noah away constantly made me so angry with her character at times I wanted to rip out my hair. But then their came a point in the book where EVERYTHING changed! I ended up being awake till 2:43 am to finish it because once that turning point at 73 or 74% of the book I was feverishly reading like my life depended on me finishing the book. I was wide eyed and completely awake. Even after finishing the book I was still wide awake with a slight sad yet euphoric feeling. It was a little odd to feel both.

I loved Noah, he was so sweet and he just would never give up even if Amanda or Tweet as he nicknamed her pushed him away for what he thought was for good.  They had an unbreakable bond from birth and Noah would stop at nothing to make sure Tweet would be his someday.  Amanda was shadowed her whole life by her perfect sister.  She felt like she was more the gum on the bottom of the shoe then the cream that rose to the top… And she just couldn’t see the qualities in herself that Noah saw.  He never stopped trying to make her realize it though. She was madly in love with him, but because of her insecurities she would force herself to believe that he was better off without her.  She couldn’t loose his friendship so it was better they were never together, the risk was too great for her.  Noah was so tortured because of her inability to just let happen what was meant to be, and even though several times he tried to stay away he knew it would never last, for him, she was IT.

Amanda makes some really BAD choices along her journey but nothing ever prepares her for the moments when she is faced with situations that are life altering.  But Noah her rock is right beside her still even after all the pain and heartache they caused each other.  His love when it comes to his Tweet knows no boundaries.  It doesn’t matter what he is doing when she needs him he will drop everything for her.  A love like that is something one cannot deny.

In the end you will go on a roller coaster of emotions through this read.  I really enjoy a book that can invoke so many emotions in you that you don’t know which way is up or down at the end.  Thankfully this was NOT a cliffhanger cause that would have KILLED me!  Thank you Alison for NOT doing that to us.  There is a clear ending to this one and I think that you will really enjoy where this book takes you… It’s a journey that I’m glad I was able to take.  I give Present Perfect 4.5 stars… I’m really looking forward to more from this author in the future.

Excerpt from Beneath the Burn

A woman with a white-blonde pixie haircut backed out of the shop and dammit if he couldn’t stop himself from gawking. She was slender, but not in a bones-pressing-skin kind of way. She had a figure that could only be toned with good nutrition and rigorous activity. Oh yeah, she was built for stamina.

She locked the door, and turned toward him, tipping back her head.

The bluest eyes he’d ever seen stared up at him. They were ringed with navy and glimmered with silver flecks. They were also wide with…fear? No, that couldn’t be it if her smile were anything to go by. Her beautiful face seemed to swallow up the glow of the streetlamps, the passing headlights, the goddamned moon.

“Hi.” Her smile wavered. “You look lost. Can I help?”

Oh Christ, her voice. It was the complete package, like the full-bodied Fsus2 chord humming from the hole in his Martin Acoustic. Gentle, cool, hypnotic—

“You’re lost, right?”

She had no idea. “Just found what I’m looking for.” Smooth, Jay. What the hell was he doing?

Tonya’s Review of Beneath the Burn

Where do I begin?? First off…WOW!! Just freaking WOW!!! What an awesome read!! The characters and storyline are very well developed. This is a very dark read with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and constantly on your toes right down the very end. I couldn’t put it down!! Beneath the Burn is a MUST read!! I don’t want to ruin it for y’all so I’ll try to be short and sweet!

We will start with the very smart, brave, and sassy Charlee. Charlee has been through things most normal girls would never even dream of. When her loser father gambles away everything he owns, including Charlee, to a very rich man with a twisted mind and very deep pockets, she has no choice but to become a brave young girl. Skip ahead a few years and one chance meeting, a murder, and a kidnapping, change everything for her, and sends her world on a very different path.

Then there’s Jay. Oh so sexy, Rockstar, absolute bad boy Jay. Jay has some deep, dark scars, both mental and physical, he can’t seem to get past even with all the drugs and pointless encounters. This leads him to decide one night that he needs to clear his mind with a tattoo. Afterwards he can’t shake the feelings he has for the beautiful tattoo artist and decides he needs to be a better man who is worthy of her time and effort. But why won’t she answer his calls? When he gets the answer to that question, he is devastated. But he could never have imagined how things were going to turn out.

I am trying to be vague as to not put any spoilers out there. But My Gosh this was such an amazing read. The sexual abuse aspect of the storyline was, at times, a little hard to stomach but made the story all the more intriguing. There are so many twists and turns, just when you think all questions have been answered, Bam, another twist! I was so invested in the characters that I wanted to hug Charlee and hurt Jay for being stupid. When I first met Jay I didn’t like him very much. But once his story unfolded I couldn’t help but root for him. Of course there was a few times I wanted to pummel him too!! This is not your typical Love story with a typical happy ending, rather it is a struggle of two very broken and damaged people who heal each other in their own ways and find Love and happiness neither thought would ever be possible. I HUGE 5 Stars for Beneath the Burn by Pam Godwin!!

My Interview with Jess

I’m visiting the small community of Santa Ruiz, California today to sit down with Jess. I’m very excited to speak with her today. As I pull up to her home I see her sitting in the porch swing. It’s just as I imagined it in my mind when reading about her a Gabe’s story.

I get out of the car and head toward her and extend my hand.

Jenn: Hello Jess, It’s a pleasure to meet you.

Jess: Hi Jenn! It’s nice to meet you as well.

Jenn: Your home is beautiful it’s just as I imagined it in my mind.

Jess: Thank you. Gabe is pretty much amazing. It still takes my breath away every time I pull up to this house, or walk through the front door. And it kind of breaks my heart that he did this all for me, not knowing if I’d ever get to see it.

We sit on the porch swing enjoying the beautiful weather. As we chat a bit.

Jenn: You ready for some questions?

Jess: Absolutely, what do you have for me?
Jenn: After reading about your story, it’s clear you have been through so much in your life. How do you think it’s changed you the most?

Jess: I finally feel…secure, loved. I struggled with feelings of being unloved, not because I was unloved, but I just didn’t know how to let myself feel love, security, contentment. It was hard for my dad to show that to me growing up, and I guess I just didn’t know how to truly accept love until I learned to let go of some negative feelings weighing me down.

Jenn: Your story was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time, and I was truly inspired by your determination even thought it was frustrating. I wonder looking back now do you have any regrets on how you handled things?

Jess: Yes. I don’t care who you are, if you say you don’t have regrets, you’d be lying to yourself. I regret leaving the way I did. I regret pushing Gabe and Ava and the rest of the Garcia’s away. They all would do anything for me, I know that now. I was just so lost, and I didn’t want to be the thing burdening them—I mean, I’m not even their real family. I was the neighbor girl across the street. Now I know, I was more to them than that. But, at the time, I felt this was what I had to do for them and for me.

Jenn: Let’s talk about Gabe. When did you first notice that you had feelings for him?

Jess: I was probably fourteen years old. I think that’s when I finally started noticing him in a way other than the ‘brotherly Gabe’. I remember sitting on the bleachers at the high school and watching him after one of his football games. It was always his smile that got me. My heart would be a little faster when we’d talk, I’d get nervous when he was around. I remember feeling very self-conscious around that time period. I was tall and lanky and just starting to grow into myself, and he was this gorgeous eighteen year old getting ready to graduate high school. Sigh….
Jenn: Did you ever get any impression before your trip to visit him at college that he reciprocated those feelings?

Jess: No, I mean I guess I don’t really know. There would be times I’d catch him glancing at me a little longer than one normally would. Or he’d make a point of sending me a special text message and things like that, but I always thought it was just because he felt sorry for me.

Jenn: When he decided that he wasn’t going back to college what was going through your head when he told you?

Jess: Mom and Dad are going to be PISSED. John and Angelica have worked so hard to build a wonderful life for Luke, Gabe and Ava. John built a construction company from nothing to a very successful company, but he never went to college. All he wanted for his three kids to go to college and get their degrees.

Jenn: Things got really crazy for a while did you worry that you might not ever be able to get back to the way things were?

Jess: Yes. Everyday. I was surviving. But then I kind of always survived. It wasn’t until I really learned to let go, move forward and live did I realize I could be happy. I remember driving back to California wondering if Gabe would even want to be with me. I wondered how I would handle that rejection, but I had to believe that he wouldn’t let me go. And thank god he didn’t.

Jenn: After everything that you have been through do you believe that true love can conquer all things? There were times I’m sure you didn’t but now that all is said and done do you?

Jess: I do, but I’m not naïve enough to believe that it’s just love. It’s love, trust, honesty and communication.

Jenn: What is your one biggest fear?

Jess: Something happening to Olivia or Gabe. I’d die. I’m telling you right now, I couldn’t handle life without them.

Jenn: Before we finish up I have one last question I like to ask of all my interviews. Tell me one thing that we don’t know about you.

Jess: Since I stay home now with Olivia I actually write a cooking blog. It combine’s my love of both writing and cooking. I actually have quite a decent following. It makes me happy, it’s fulfilling and allows me the flexibility to spend time with Gabe and Livvy.

Jenn: Well that’s all the questions that I have for you today. I thank you so much for meeting with me and answering some questions for our readers. Your story was amazing and beautiful and I wish you all the very best in life. You sure do deserve it after all you’ve been through.

Jess: Thank you for coming to talk with me. It was so nice to meet you.

Well that’s all I have. As I drive back to the airport I reflect back on the story and I truly admire Jess’s courage. When life tried to break her down she refused to stay there. I really enjoyed sitting down with Jess today.

Thanks for following along…

Jenn’s Review of Unbreakable

To say that I loved this book would probably be a gross understatement.  I was sucked in from the moment the book started and the moment shared between Jess and Gabe when they went to visit his college.  You knew where it was headed but the story in between is something I never would have predicted.

Losing her mother at a very young age all Jess really had was an absentee father who was checked out of life the moment that his wife passed away… Luckily Jess had the help of her neighbors the Garcia’s.  She spent most of her childhood growing up in the house across the street while her father worked long hours at the firehouse.  The Garcia’s were such a great family!  I loved the dynamic between them and their eagerness to take care of Jess like one of their own.  Her best friend Ava and she were extremely close and it was more than obvious that they were like soul sisters… Jess became enamored with Gabe Garcia but always had reservations about him because they lived together like brother and sister even thought they really had no relation to one another.  On a trip to visit Gabe at his school it became pretty clear to Jess that Gabe had the same feelings.  She would soon find out just how much he reciprocated those feelings for her…

As their story unfolds you find out just how vulnerable Jess is.  Even though the Garcia’s were wonderful to her she cannot help the fact that her father’s actions have molded her psyche a bit.  She doesn’t quite feel worthy at times and wonders why her father can’t love her.  This made me so sad, I totally understood that he lost his wife, but she lost her mother and they were all each other had.  he’s   But despite the fact that her father pretty much abandons her on a regular basis she knows how to give love.  And she loves Gabe.  Their sparks from the beginning were beautiful and natural.  I was happy to see her reservation about having a relationship with him because of their family connection.  They were being conscious of everyone around them and not just running off into the sunset like love struck teenagers.

Gabe Garcia is like every woman’s dream come true.  He is willing to sacrifice everything to be with the woman he loves at any cost including his career in football.  When he decides to go home to become a fireman everything changes for Gabe.  Gabe’s character just makes me swoon!  He was so sweet and loving, kind and caring and has that stop at nothing to get what he wants attitude.  He’s also patient and sensitive.  Yeah he’s pretty much a god among men.  Wow I was smitten with him from the moment in his dorm room at college to the last word of the book.  Gabe loves Jess unconditionally and will never stop and he proves that repeatedly throughout the book.  When the two of them suffer a devastating incident and she pushes everyone in her life away, he doesn’t run away with his tail between his legs and he never stops wanting and needing Jess more then the air he breaths.  They share that love that transcends time and space.

When the twist in the book came I must say that I was totally surprised.  Honestly when I read the synopsis I had something completely different in my head of what would devastate the couple along their journey.  But I was really shocked when it did transpire cause it was not expected at all and for that I give a standing ovation because most of the time I find lately that the synopsis gives away too much of the plot, so much so that I have stopped reading them most of the time.

I couldn’t say more about this book without giving too much away but this is a 5 Star MUST READ!  One of the better books that I have personally read this year so far…  For a first time author Rebecca did an amazing job weaving a story filled with love, passion and heartache.  I couldn’t recommend to change anything in this book from beginning to end I thought that the story was just as perfect as Gabe Garcia… hehehe… yeah I’m kinda smitten with him!

Excerpt from Easy to Love You

I looked back down at my pride and joy. He was so little but so chubby. I pulled his cap off and chuckled to myself, “Looks like I won the bet, little man.” He had a head full of dark curly hair, almost exactly like his little cousin Alex. I laid him down on my legs and gently put his cap back on. I opened his blanket and his little fist came springing out, so much like his mom already, so much fight in him. I took my pinky to his little fist and he opened it and latched on. I cuddled in close to him; I was going to remember this moment for the rest of my life. A few tears dripped down and landed where my finger and his hand connected, I looked at his face and he cracked a little half smile. I knew he didn’t understand what was going on around him but at that moment my whole world changed. I did not care what anyone thought or was going to say about us having a baby together so soon, or that she was too young. All that I cared about was this little man and my soon to be wife.

Jenn’s Review of Easy to Love You

I think a more apt title for this book is Easy to love Hunter.  I have to say after the first book I was pretty smitten with Hunter and well after the 2nd let’s just say head over heels didn’t quite cut it.

So when we left off in book one with a pretty BIG cliffy, MacKenzie better knows as CC to her family and friends, was apparently loosing her life.  After a horrific car accident she is fighting for her life.  Not only was she fighting for her life but for the life of her unborn child.  I wasn’t sure what would happen in this book but I couldn’t wait to devour it.  I stayed up pretty much most of the night to finish it and it was worth every bit of lost sleep.

As much as this story continued to be about Hunter and CC, we still had all the familiar characters present and pretty prominent in this book.  One thing that I love about these books is that as a family they are close and it shows how much they love and support each other.

So when CC wakes up she is disoriented and doesn’t remember much, but it does all come rushing back to her and she hides something from Hunter about the accident and what she remembers.  I really felt bad for her she was having a bit of a struggle adjusting and their was this crazy pesky nurse that seemed to be in the way and making her crazy at times.  Yeah that’s a twisted little secret part of the story.  I won’t give you details but when you find out who this woman really is you might want to choke soemone….

As the story moves along we find out a lot more about Hunter’s past and a person that reappears and is not welcome, brings new stress to their already stressful situation.  Hunter as always will go to any length to protect his family and that doesn’t just me CC and his child, his mom and sister as well. Have I mentioned how much I love Hunter.  He is strong, supportive and so understanding of CC when she comes home from the hospital.  And they both adjust really well to parenthood, which for a young couple isn’t easy to do but with the love of their friends and family they are able to overcome just about any situation.  Including the accident that almost stole CC and their child away. My heart broke for Hunter a lot during this book.  He was truly stressed and made some not so great decisions, but he truly was doing what he thought was best.  Though it wasn’t perceived that way at all.

There were some unbelievable twists in this story that I never saw coming.  I remember messaging Megan in between readings and doing a SAY WHAT?  Did that really just happen!  Yeah there are quiet a few of those moments that will leave you questioning things… Don’t worry you’ll get all the answers by the end of the book… There were some heartbreaking moments that made me ugly cry and made my heart hurt.  I wanted nothing more then to see these two live happily ever after, with all that they already had gone through it was hard to read the trials that they would still face…

I love how believable the story is and that I can really see most of it happening in life.  I have the line from a song in my head from Aerosmith.  “Life’s a Journey, not a destination.” and that couldn’t be more fitting for Hunter and MacKenzie.  Their story isn’t about the destination at all it’s about the Journey and all the mistakes you make along the way help you become a stronger person and make you grow and realized what you have sometimes is worth all the pain it took to get there.

You will not be disappointed in this sequel.  Megan did a fantastic job weaving the story and intricate plot line.  There were a lot of things to work through in this book. At the end I felt like CC and Hunter could finally put the past where it belonged and move toward a future hopefully filled with a lot less drama… But… After reading the last few paragraphs, that’s doubtful… This should be one crazy wedding with her brother now on her hit list… I can’t wait to see where this family leads us next!  I give Megan 5 Stars for this fantastic sequel.  I couldn’t have asked for more of out this book… Well maybe I could have but because some books you just never want to see end… I think you will truly Enjoy this book and the series if you haven’t read them yet!

Desperate to appear normal again, she slaps on a happy face and goes through the motions of a normal, healthy relationship—but with the exception of even a single kiss. And she’s okay with pretending, but Drew needs more than she’s willing to give.

Surprisingly, it’s an innocent letter from a soldier halfway around the world that has her seeing life differently. Sawyer is at his breaking point, and his depression sucks him in deeper every day. Makenna becomes his only lifeline to home, and he’s hanging on by a very weak thread.

By helping him, Makenna learns to let go of grief before she’s left with only a ghost of the woman she once was, finally freeing her from guilt and showing her that it is possible to love again. But when she discovers that both of the men in her life are hiding something, she makes two shocking revelations.
One of them is insanely in love with her, and one of them destroyed her happy ever after.

Even though a fairytale ending does await her, is she willing to face her own demons to fight for it?

 Excerpt from Every Breath

Drew finally returns with two steaming plates filled with juicy pot roast, herbed potatoes, and roasted broccoli. “Hope you’re hungry. I got a little carried away with the portion sizes.”

“I am, actually.”

Halfway through our meal, my cell phone chirps at me, indicating a text message. I don’t even have to look at it to know who it is. “Sorry, Drew. Let me see what Callie is wanting.”
“No problem at all. Tell her I say ‘hello.’”
Callie:  ‘Mak! How’s it going? Has Coach Hot Stuff kissed u yet?’
Me: ‘Jeez, Cal, no. He says hi.’
Callie: ‘Back at him. Just tell me one thing. Do u want him to?’
Me: ‘I’ll call you later.’
Callie: ‘OMG! U do! U better freaking call me later. <3 u!‘
I shove my phone back into my purse, and I can feel the heat of the redness rising in my cheeks. Do I want to kiss him? “She says ‘back at you.’”
He narrows his eyes and smirks. “What else did she say?”
“Just checking up on me.”
He pulls his own cell phone from his lap to show me the screen. “Was it anything like the messages she sent me?”
Callie Baxter: ‘Please tell me u kissed her already.’
Drew: ‘Not YET. Probably not tonight. Don’t want to freak her out.’
Callie Baxter: ‘Why r u so damn noble? Just DO IT!’
Drew: ‘Maybe.’
I slap my hands over my face. “Yes, very similar.” She’s now on my hit list for the second time today.

Jenn’s Review of Every Breath

Oh the tangled webs we weave… In this second book from Tasha Ivey I was really impressed in the growth of her writing and story telling.  This story is heartwarming, heartbreaking and inspiring all at the same time.

We follow the story of Makenna who has suffered a great loss and hasn’t been able to put back the pieces of her life since that fateful day she lost the person that she was planning to spend the rest of her life with.  Her loss propels her into a state of existing but not truly living.  It’s hard to hear Makenna’s story and how sad she is.  She feels like she will never be able to break the cycle, and all she does is put on a front for her family and friends.  Her best friend tries everything to help her including forcing her into a relationship with Drew the high school coach with good looks and good personality.  Looks can be EXTREMELY deceiving though…

In Makenna’s class they all participated in a project to write to a solider overseas.  The solider that they had contacted this year wrote back a letter of thanks.  This letter would change everything for Makenna.  As the story moves on Makenna and Sawyer move from friends into that grey area, she’s torn because she’s technically dating Drew but has strong feelings toward Sawyer.  She starts to feel alive again for the first time in her life but that all comes crashing to a halt when things suddenly take a dangerous twist and she finds herself in uncomfortable situation with someone she trusted.

Sawyer has a very broken past.  I cried for the childhood that was stolen away from this man.  For the pain that he endures daily thinking himself a failure because that’s all he’s ever known himself to be.  No matter how hard he tries he can’t save everyone.  No matter how hard he tries it never seems to be enough… His tortured soul needs mending and when he first meets Makenna he can see the same need in her eyes.  He’s drawn to her in a way that he can’t explain, and he wants nothing more to fix that sadness behind her eyes. When his past collides with his future Sawyer is thrust back into believing he just isn’t worthy of happiness and the secrets that he keeps could destroy the one person he has ever felt truly happy with.

This book will take you on a roller coaster of highs and lows.  You will never see some of the twists coming at you, and when they hit it’s like a bomb exploding!  Makenna is thrust into an uncomfortable situation and finally had to deal with the past to get too the future that she so desperately wants.  You will feel her heartache in the retelling of the story of the night her fiance was ripped from her life.  The sadness she feels when she learns of Sawyer’s past and the betrayal that she feels he bestowed upon her. And the love and passion that she and Sawyer share throughout the book.  You will also feel extreme hatred, I can’t tell you why but you’ll find out!  Just read this book!  I couldn’t put it down from the time I started it… The story pulled me in and even though at times it might have been a bit too much crazy!  It was all worth it!  I give Tasha 4.5 stars for this touching read.  I can’t wait to see what’s to come in this series!

A story of self-discovery and friendship, Sweet Thing shines light on the power of loving and letting go.

Carrie’s Review of Sweet Thing

I loved Sweet Thing! What a fantastic story! The title alone made me want to read it! I couldn’t read fast enough to see how Will and Mia’s relationship would pan out!

We first meet Mia who loses her father and takes over his cafe. She meets Will on a plane coming home to take care of her fathers things. Will later becomes her roommate! She can be very frustrating to say the least! There were times I wanted to reach in my kindle and choke her! I didn’t like that she felt Will wasn’t good enough for her. She would always say she wanted someone that had a career and money. With that being said I didn’t hate her, and you learn throughout the book why Mia does or says some of the things she does.

Will Ryan oh my word!! He swooned me!! A musician with tats! <<<<< what is not to love? Right? Will can be very mysterious at times, and leaves you trying to figure him out through most of the book! He is caring, patient, VERY patient dealing with Mia I must say! He is a wonderful BB! He will be added to my growing list! I loved Will!

I give Sweet Thing 5 giant stars! It is a page turner for sure! It is so beautifully written. You will be swooned one minute, and frustrated the other. This book without a doubt will leave you wanting more! Thank you Renee Carlino for Sweet Thing!

About the Author:

Renee’s first friends were the imaginary kind and even though her characters haven’t gone away, thankfully the delusions have. She admits she’s a wildly hopeless romantic and she blames 80’s movies staring Molly Ringwald for that. She lives in Southern California with her husband, two sons, and their sweet dog June. When she’s not at the beach with her boys or working on the next book, she likes to spend her time reading, going to concerts, and eating dark chocolate.

Excerpt from Sweet Thing
I followed Jenny around a little and made sure she had everything she needed. The DJ played some hip-hop music so of course the wedding party had to have a dance off on the little makeshift grassy dance floor we’d created. After Jenny kicked everyone’s ass by pulling out all the stops and yanking her dress up to do the Michael Jackson splits, I skipped up to the cottage to grab a sweater. There were only two bedrooms in the cottage—the smaller one I was staying in and the one that Jenny’s parents would stay in that night. Jenny and Tyler were getting swept away to some secret spot his parents had paid for and most of the other guests were either going back to the city or staying in a hotel nearby.

I opened the door and noticed right away a couple was in the room. They didn’t notice me because they were partially hidden by an old-fashioned privacy screen, plus they were… occupied. I squinted my eyes but couldn’t make out exactly what I was seeing and then I heard what was sadly becoming a familiar sound: Audrey and Will having sex. I backed out of the room, begging the universe to let me remain unseen. I shut the door and turned around to walk away when I ran smack into Will’s chest.

“Have you seen Audrey?” he said. I did a double-take. I must have looked as confused as I felt. Who the heck was in there with Audrey?

It wouldn’t be long before I found out. “What, Mia?” he said seriously and then Dustin walked out of the room and stood behind me, closing the door behind him. Will glanced at Dustin and then back at me. He looked dumbfounded and ruined like he was going to cry and then he whispered, “Oh no. Really? Really, Mia? You and him?”

Dustin and I stood there frozen and then with perfectly shitty timing Audrey opened the door and walked out. It was only a matter of seconds that we stood there, but it felt like an eternity. I couldn’t find the words to tell Will that I wasn’t part of it. His voice suddenly got loud and high. “What?” he said through crazy laughter. He was laughing and it was scary and then his expression turned to bewilderment and then disgust. “The three of you? What the fuck?” He turned on his heel and headed down the hallway, waving his arms around and mumbling something I was sure none of us could understand.

I turned and looked at Audrey and Dustin. “You guys are serious assholes. You should leave.” They looked blankly at me like idiots. I ran after Will, but I was a ways behind him. Every one of the guests watched as Will grabbed a giant bottle of whiskey and headed toward the dock. “What are you doing, Will?” I yelled after him.

I noticed Audrey and Dustin hadn’t taken my advice yet, because they came rolling out behind me. When I got to the top of the dock Will had already rowed himself to the middle of the pond in the tiny wooden boat. “Come back, Will, let’s talk,” I said, pleading with him.

“I’m not. Talking. To. You. Ever!” It was lunatic Will.

He stood up in the boat, looked at me, Dustin, and Audrey and flipped us off with both hands, then yelled, “Fuck all of you!” And then he lost his balance and the boat started rocking. He fell but sat right back up and started rowing away. “Don’t look for me!” he yelled as he rowed farther into the darkness.

All the wedding guests looked on with amusement. I looked at Jenny and mouthed, “Sorry.” As I turned to head back toward the cottage, I stopped in front of Dustin and Audrey, “Come on, the screw-happy drummer? So cliché, both of you. Just leave.” They turned and headed for their cars without a word.

I went to cottage and finally got that sweater and then I exchanged my heels for some Converse, grabbed a flashlight, and headed back out. The pond was only about the size of a football field and there was an easy-to-navigate footpath around the entire thing. I walked around to the other side where I found Will sitting in the boat on the shore, taking continuous swigs of whiskey.

“Will?” I said in a low voice.

“Don’t fucking come near me, Mia. I swear to God I will row myself into the middle of that Goddamn pond and stay there till next year.”

I stood still and spoke calmly. “I walked into the room and thought you and Audrey were having sex. I couldn’t see who it was behind the screen. I tried to sneak back out and that’s when I ran into you. I was confused.”

“Go away, Mia.”

I knew Will believed me because he knew me, but he was hurting and I wished I could comfort him. I looked back at the wedding where I could see the party winding down and people leaving. Seeing the lights from a place so dark was enchanting, but it made me sad that two people who were supposed to care about him had ruined such a beautiful place for Will. I went back to the wedding where everyone was cleaning up. I worried about Will, but he was surprisingly responsible for someone who could act so erratically. I knew he wouldn’t do anything stupid.

We sent Jenny and Tyler off in a fancy old car and then it was just Jenny’s parents and me. I said goodnight to them and showered and then crawled into bed wearing my underwear and Clash T-shirt. I was asleep within minutes.

Lying on my side, I started awake and glanced at the clock. It was five thirty a.m. and I had my typical reaction. Whenever I drink or stay up late, it never fails, I always wake up way too early and then I get anxiety over the fact that I didn’t get enough sleep, which prevents be from going back to sleep. It’s a vicious cycle and it’s annoying as hell. My mind also wandered to Will; it was getting light out, so it was that coldest time in the morning before the sun is up. I turned over and gasped when I found him next to me, fully clothed in his suit and shoes, lying on top of the quilt and sound asleep. He smelled like a whiskey distillery but looked like a pallid child. My heart ached for him. I crawled out of bed, careful not to make any noise. I untied his laces and gently pulled his shoes and socks off. He moaned and mumbled something in his sleep. I lifted his loosened tie over his head and then I reached for his belt. The moment I touched it, he grabbed my wrist and held it. He looked at me through squinted eyes. “I got it,” he murmured. “Come back to bed.”

He stood up and stripped down to his boxers and then slid back into bed, curling behind me and pulling me tightly into his chest. He slid his hand under my shirt and clutched my side. His long fingers easily wrapped around me and came to rest centimeters below my breast. When he hitched his long leg over me, I was completely
cocooned by him and it felt like heaven.

“Are you okay?” I said quietly.

“I am now.” There was a long pause and then I felt him kiss my hair before whispering, “It hurt more when I thought it was you.” I smiled, perfectly tranquil, and then within minutes we were both asleep again.

When I woke up I was lying on my back, Will was on his side curled up next to me, his body dovetailed with mine and his head resting on my stomach. I was mindlessly running my hands through his hair when I realized how incredibly intimate our positions
were. He stirred sleepily and then his hands moved to my hips where he twisted his fingers in the waistband of my underwear. When I felt him hard against me, I jerked away, sat up, and threw my legs over the side of the bed. He rolled over away from me
and mumbled, “Sorry, baby.” His voice was strained and raspy.

Leaning in, I kissed his shoulder and whispered, “Get some sleep.”

Don’t complicate things! I chanted that line over and over in my head as I gaped at Will’s arms and hands and imagined them everywhere, all over me.

Title: Save Me From Me

Author: Erika Ashby

Release Date: October 2013

Goodreads Link:

Dani refuses to lose another parent due to her absence from their life. After pulling herself back together following the death of her father, she moves back to her childhood town to live with her mom. She’s instantly pulled back into the lifestyle she worked so hard to get away from ten years ago. She accepts that this is the life she has always been destined to live. Getting a job at the store down the road and hooking up with an ex fling seem to be the logical way to go…that is until Holden Reynolds shows up in town.

Now that Holden is finally back home from the Navy he plans on following in his father’s footsteps. Still trying to move on from the one woman who had his heart, he busies himself in work and returning to the country boy lifestyle he’s always loved. The best way to get over someone is to be under someone, right? That’s his mindset as he travels town to town with his job perfectly content with being a rambling man…that is until he meets Danielle Brooks.

If first impressions are really everything, then my first encounter with Holden will forever be engrained into my mind. Like seriously. I will never be able to get the look of his face as that slut bag was going down on him out of my mind. The way his head dropped back against the outside wall of the bar and the moan that slowly eased its way out of his throat was the hottest damn thing ever. The thought of wishing I was the one causing it quickly passed my mind. It would have stayed a bit longer if he would have never lifted his head making eye contact with me. He wasn’t fazed at all by me checking out the show. No, instead he just griped the chicks head harder pushing her faster and deeper onto what I’m sure is a very nice cock. It’s sad and maybe a little sick that this is making me horny. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m in a desperate need to get laid. It’s been forever. So long that I can’t even remember.

I push back the head of the girl whose name apparently is Loralee. It’s not like I would have given two-shits and even asked. I could care less to be honest. I just got into town today and was just looking for a release and she was more than willing to comply. But now, ever since that hot little thing openly watched me getting my dick sucked and enjoyed the show, this chick is just feeling like a dog licking up slop.

“Enough.” I say trying to adjust my now deflating dick back into my boxers.

She huffs, “Wait, why? Is it because of what Dani said?” Dani, I let the sound of her name play in my mind. “Because what she said isn’t true. I’m gonna beat her fuckin’ ass.”

I lift my hand to shut her up, “Listen here sweetheart. This has nothing to do with her. It has to do with me not getting anything out of your mouth. I lost interest…my dick lost interest. I could lie and say that I have a case of whiskey dick, but we both know that isn’t true. Maybe you just suck at sucking tonight. It’s okay.” I pat her shoulder, “We all have our off nights.”

The Devil You Know
Demon Legacy Series Book One
By J.M. Gregoire
Genre: Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance
Publisher: J.M. Gregoire Books
Release Date: July 30, 2013

Deziree Davanzatti is a thief by trade and to keep herself occupied between jobs, she owns and operates Onyx, a trendy nightclub for the supernatural citizens of New York City.

What else would a 400-something year old demon-human hybrid do with her spare time?

Following a drunken night of questionable decisions, the vampire Michael “Vegas” Tremayne leaves town with no explanation. Dez is left wondering if they made a mistake and if it cost her a price she wasn’t willing to pay – her best friend and confidant.

When he returns after two weeks of no contact, he comes bearing grave news that could potentially change the world forever….or end it all together. To make matters worse, they suspect that someone they know may be behind it all.

An extremely dangerous chain of events has been set in motion and it is up to Dez and Vegas, with the help of his brother Lucas, to find a way to stop it. From the author of Burning, the short story prequel, comes The Devil You Know, the first full length novel in the Demon Legacy series by J.M. Gregoire.

The time seemed to pass quickly. Deziree had taken a second to pan around the room and felt the mild pangs of disappointed when she didn’t see Vegas anywhere. She took a look over the main bar and realized that some of the bottles were getting a low.

“Hey Danni,” she called to the bartender, “I’m going to take a break on the roof. When I get back, I will run out back and grab some refills.”

As she stepped out of the roof-access door onto the flat expanse of building, Deziree opened her pack of cigarettes, took one out, put it to her lips and lit it. She could feel his presence as she took her first drag. She exhaled and smiled when she heard his voice behind her.

“Those are bad for you, you know.”

When she spun around, he was standing a few paces away.

“Hey you.” As Deziree gazed at Vegas, her smile didn’t attenuate. Besides the fact that he was her best friend, she loved to look at him. He was by far the most beautiful creature she’d laid eyes on in her extraordinarily long life. He was stereotypically hot guy. Tall, dark and every bit of him was dangerous. He was six-two or three, the top of his smooth, bald head towering above her. She couldn’t imagine the number of razors he’d gone through over the centuries to keep that look. He had the perfectly chiseled appearance of a deadly hunter. Most people would have to spend hours in the gym every day for a body like that, but his undead status meant he didn’t even have to try. He would look like that forever. His eyes were the only tell-tale sign that he was a vampire. Those irises – each a pure gleaming gold with a dark-brown ring bordering the edge – were the only giveaway to the general public of what he was. She, on the other hand, could feel it. She could feel the electricity crackle in the air whenever her was around. In more than four hundred years, she had never met someone as exciting as Vegas, and she wanted him from the moment they first met. Why did we fight it?

“Can I bum one off you?” He nodded his head toward the cigarettes.

“You would make a terrible spokesperson for anti-smoking public service announcements,” she replied with a snarky tone. As she fumbled with the pack of cigarettes, he stepped closer to her. Her nerves hummed.

With a predatory smile that revealed his intentions, he closed what little remaining space there was between them. Reaching his hand around the back of her neck and tilting her head, he brought his lips down to meet hers. Her head spun with euphoria. His scent washed away every negative thought she’d had about him in the last two weeks. When the kiss finally broke, it was not her doing. Taking a deep breath, she opened her eyes to see that he had that his smile had grown wicked.

“You didn’t answer me on the phone,” he purred. “Did you miss me?”

“Well, with the harem of men I have at my disposal, I couldn’t find the time to miss someone I only had a little fling with.” She stepped back and with a smirk, she added, “I mean, I didn’t even get breakfast.”

Vegas dropped his gaze. “I honestly am sorry about that. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. I had a fantastic time and I didn’t want to leave, but I was contracted at the last minute and it was time-sensitive.”

Deziree smiled. “I’m just fucking with you, Michael. I’m not mad. I mean, I was initially. But I figured something must have happened. A call or a text would have been nice, but shit happens, right?”

“Well,” he said, his wicked grin firmly in place and his eyebrow cocked, “let me make it up to you.”

“We’ll see about that,” she replied as her heart pounded in her chest.

“I can hear your heart racing.” Stepping forward, he leaned down and kissed her again. When he broke away again, she found herself wishing that she didn’t have to go back to work. He leaned his forehead on hers and whispered, “My place when you get out?”

“Sure,” was her quick breathy reply.

“I have a few things to take care of,” he said quietly, “and then I will meet you here around the time you guys usually lock up.”

She nodded in response, and he turned, walked to the edge of the roof and dropped off the side. After standing there for a few moments in a daze, she finished her cigarette and headed back through the roof-access door to finish her shift.

Jenn’s Review of Fatalism
I was really excited to read this new release from LK Collins.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from this first time author and I was pleased with the outcome.  For her first novel it was a good read.

I really enjoyed Vincent’s character. He was sweet yet he was possessive and determined to win over Alexa at any cost…  When they first meet it was instant attraction and Alexa stepped slightly out of her normal character, but that brief moment ended all too soon… Alexa is a strong and independent woman yet she has a hard past.  Living with her mother who battled with mental illness wasn’t easy for Alexa and caused her a lot of self doubt.  she erected walls around her to keep anyone out that could potentially hurt her.  She didn’t do relationships or LOVE…. That was until Vincent sparked something in her that she couldn’t turn away from… There was a lot of push and pull in this relationship and you wondered at times if they would make it in the end, they were both so caught up in their heads and their pasts.

I really enjoyed Alexa’s relationship with her roommate and best friend Cara.  They had a sisterly bond and were truly their for each other.  Alexa faced some issues in the story and she was able to lean on Cara to help her through the pain and heartache.

My only issue with the story was that Alexa was a little too quick to pass judgement and believe what others told her, without finding out the facts first. It moved a little too quickly at times.  I would have liked to have seen the development between the characters go a little deeper.  There was a pretty big plot point that arose during a pivotal point in the story that I felt needed more attention, and a few editing mistakes as well, but that didn’t distract from the storyline… Other then that it was good and I did enjoy the read. For a first time author I was happy with the results and will be waiting to read the 2nd book. I give Fatalism 4 stars, and can’t wait to see what happens with Cara & Abel in next book.
