I love Angie Stanton’s books! When we got the request to read Under the Spotlight I jumped at the chance to read it. Though this is a book 3, you can read it as a standalone, all of the characters fit together very well and she writes it in a way that allows you to follow the story even though there were previous books in this series. All that did was make me want to go back and read books 1 & 2!
I really loved this one from the start. The strong heroine trying to make her life better and get out from under her useless mother’s grasp made me fall in love instantly with Riley! Her sassy and snarky attitude, are a mechanism she uses to hide a bit. When you see her past unfold you will understand where it comes from, her life was a whirlwind at a very young age and she’s been slightly jaded and has some serious reservations because of it… After the secret she’s hiding from her co-workers and friends breaks free, it’s all she can do to not crumble from the embarrassment of her past… But Garrett Jamieson isn’t going to let it go, and no matter how hard she fights with him, it seems like in the end it will be a loosing battle…
Garrett Jamieson was on the top of the world with his band. He and his brothers had a huge success, but Garrett is having a really hard time since their break up. He’s partying to hard, getting arrested and disappointing his parents and his fans. All he wants to do is find a way to make his brothers see that being on the road is the only life for them, but for them, they are ready to live a different life. Garrett needs to find a new direction as they have and it isn’t until his dad suggests that he try production that Garrett has a new lite in his eyes… Just after stepping into Sound Sync, Garrett meets Riley, and boy does she set him afire… But not in a good way, at first, it’s literally with her deadly stare, and her attitude toward him. But once he learns of her secret, and realizes the talent she has, Garrett sees he new dreams unfold and Riley holds the key to his first success. If he could only get her to stop hating him and agree to his proposition.
Riley and Garrett’s push and pull relationship both personal and professional will have you equally laughing with delight, and frustrated beyond words. She’s sassy and stubborn, and he’s pushy and arrogant which leads to some whitty banter between the two of them, and some frustration as they weave through a friendship, professional relationship and lead into a personal relationship. Angie’s writing is spot on and the feelings she evokes while you read make you feel more like your reading about friends then a fictional couple. This book had just enough of the tension between budding lovers to keep me more then satisfied, and though I would love to see more of these two, I felt like their story was complete, and left me a happy reader. If your looking for sweet romance this book is for you! I give Angie 4 shining starlet stars for her beautiful characters and her impeccable writing.
