The funny thing about Written in the Scars is that the Synopsis only barely gives you a glimpse into the story of Elin and Ty. I was excited to read this story. I have enjoyed Adriana’s work since her very first book. She’s on my “say yes to the book” list, but this one transcends so many topics, disasters and relationship hurdles, I think the synopsis does it very little justice. I will preface that by saying the synopsis drew me in, but the story was so completely unexpected for me. I had no idea what I was about to uncover, and it kept me reading till two am to finish it while I wept in suspense, and agony wondering how far she was going to go.
This is a tough book to review because I do NOT want to give anything away. But I will say a few things about this book.
Adriana explores all of the insecurities of marriage, life, our ability to handle marital situations and our ability to forgive, not just ourselves but the ones that we love. It will also test the will of man in tragedy. This story simply has it all. I have to say sometimes books seem to have drama for the sake of drama. But with Written in the Scars, honestly, its REAL LIFE. Everything that Elin and Ty face are real life issue. They are the day to day marriage, getting stale, feeling inadequate, it exploits all of the aspect of marriage that a lot of people sweep under the rug and build that facade of “the perfect marriage”.
Adriana does an amazing job weaving a story that will steal your heart and soul. She will rip you apart time and again only to piece you back together again. I was surprised but this story to say the least. Eli and Ty are like many couples out there that struggle with these themes.
I was so pleasantly surprised by the depth she digs into not only Elin’s psyche but Ty’s as well, writing a male POV which is not easy, that feels both accurate and believable.
Bottom line, pick up this book today! It will be truly worth it! I know that this review is a little vague but it’s on purpose, as I would rather you experience it all for yourself from the authors words and not mine. Enjoy! xoxo
