A STARLET REVIEW: WISH YOU WERE MINE BY TARA SIVEC
From the USA Today bestselling author of The Story of Us and Fisher's Light comes a new, standalone novel---a heartwrenching story about first loves and second chances that will make you fall in love all over again....Five years. I would've stayed away longer if I hadn't received the letter. Not a day has gone by that I haven't thought about her, haven't missed her smile, haven't wished that things were different. The last time I saw my two best friends, I vowed to not stand in the way of their happiness, even if that meant I couldn't be a part of their lives. Cameron James and her emerald-green eyes were too much of a temptation and I couldn't stay and watch them together. Cameron deserved better than me. She deserved him.But now that I am back, things are different. I'm not going to stand by and watch the woman I've always loved slip away again. I'm done living my life with regrets and I'm ready to tell her the truth. And I'll do whatever it takes to show her that I always wished she was mine.

My Review

I’ve always loved Tara’s more serious books.  While her comedy are funny, I love her softer and more emotional reads so much.  She has a knack for telling a heartfelt and emotional story.

I really was captivated by the premise of this story just from the synopsis.  When I first started to read it I was a little skeptical though, I won’t lie. I’m not a huge fan of the past/present writing, it typically drives me nuts.  However in this book I absolutely fell in love with the younger version of these characters.  Their friendship, their loyalty and their heartaches were all so beautiful to read.  Watching Everett, Cameron and Aiden grow up together gave the story a sweet tenderness only understood by those closest of friends from a young age.

I have to say that I was TORN apart by what happened between them all.  I felt so deeply for Everett and his emotional demons that he had to try to overcome.  Knowing the way he’d grown up and watching his foray into the same addictions was so difficult.  I wanted to hug him and often.  Cameron’s own demons were more self inflicted, since she grew up in a good home, with loving and kind parents.  They only wanted what was best for their girl, even if it did hurt someone she loved very much.

Watching this story unfold will break your heart.  The push and pull between Cameron and Everett is hard to watch and it was almost unbearable at times watching them fight each other instead of just communicating.  But that was what made it a great read.  The only part that I didn’t care for was the conflict.  Unfortunately I found that part very predictable, bust since I loved the story between Cameron and Everett it didn’t really hurt my reading experience.  Overall I really enjoyed this story, and only hope that we might get a book about Everett’s brother sometime soon!  If you love a sweet coming of age type story that transcends years, you will really enjoy this one.  Pick up your copy today!
