Trapped in his tiny mountain cabin, she didn't expect to fall for his big heart. The Outpost
Exposing a prominent criminal family with an investigative news report didn’t exactly work out the way Sabrina had hoped. Instead of basking in the glory of her article’s success, she’s on the run from a powerful man who wants her dead. To stay safe, she’s forced to trade one bad situation for another. Stuck in the Montana wilderness, she’s secluded from anything resembling civilization or the modern-day world. The only good thing about her situation is the gorgeous mountain man assigned to protect her. Too bad he isn’t the slightest bit interested in a city girl like her.
Beau likes his life quiet and simple. Give him a peaceful day hiking in the woods with his dog, and he’s a happy man. He has no use for large crowds, noisy cities or dramatic women. So when a hotshot reporter rolls into town, dragging her big-time problems with her, he should have run for the hills. Instead, he volunteered to keep her safe. Bringing her into his world won’t be easy, but if he can convince her that Montana isn’t as terrifying as she believes, they might just be the perfect match.

Oh this book….. So I have to be honest I struggled desperately with the beginning of this book. I get why the story had to lead the way it did. I get it, I do. She needed to be isolated to keep her safe. But some of it just seemed to drag on and on at times. However the second half of the book was everything that I wanted and expected from this book. I’ve read every book in this series and I was excited for the potential that this story would take. I wasn’t disappointed in the end though which is what made me still give this one a good rating. I’m a firm believe that sometimes books that don’t get us in the beginning will totally get us in the end and this book did that for certain.
I cannot say that I loved Sabrina, she kinda annoyed me with her superficial attitude and her whole, we are from two different worlds. If you love someone you can change and learn to love things they do. She was so adamant about it from the beginning I wasn’t even positive we were getting an HEA at times. lol. But I know that Devney would never let me down, I mean she wrote some amazing heroes that you can’t help but fall for. That is where Beau, the hero comes in, he is probably my favorite of the men of this whole series. I love his his kindness and his take no crap attitude. He’s a bit of a caveman but also knows how to be tender and loving at the same time. He’s just he whole package. He loves his family almost to a fault and would do absolutely anything for anyone to help them out. Which is how he ended up protecting Sabrina from the looming threats. But even more so he’s protecting his family from being caught in the crossfire of this potentially deadly predicament.
Their retreat into the woods and the isolation was what made the beginning a little difficult to get through. Sabrina was put at an Outpost in the woods so she would be away from anyone that could be connected to her and potentially found by the men that she’s on the run from. Sabrina broke a story as a reporter that was life changing for her career but a danger to her life. This element I really wish would have been exposed harder throughout the story. It felt like it wasn’t quite as dangerous as it could have been, considering who it was that she had outed and angered. I wish this would have been sprinkled through the story line with a little more suspense. However…. The final part of this book was just everything that I wanted, suspenseful, edge of your seat kind of excitement and fear… This is another good read from Devney. This whole series is really fabulous. If you haven’t read them I highly encourage starting from the beginning of the series, though they can all be read as standalone’s. I cannot wait to see what she brings in the next book. I’ve been excited for that story since the first book!
