Ok so I was super excited to get this book. I’m a BIG believer in authors needing to reach outside their comfort zone and giving a new genre a shot! Some of them do justice and some don’t but I always say it’s a risk worth taking…. K.A. Linde did a fantastic job with The Affiliate! It was intriguing and held my interest throughout. Her world building was just enough to keep you guessing and make you want more.
When Cyrene is chosen as an Affiliate to the Queen of Byern, she’s elated! She always wanted to be in the court and a member of “The First Class”. But unfortunately it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, fending off suitors like Edric, The King and his younger brother Prince Kael, Cyrene is quickly thrown into the midst of a family feud of sorts… Edric wants an heir to the throne, something his Queen has yet to provide, someone to pass down his lineage too. The Prince, well he just wants to bed anyone he can it seems, and they both fancy Cyrene from the moment that they lay eyes on her.
After her presenting and her ascension to the court, Cyrene’s journey will confuse yet excite you. The little bits of information that lead you up to the last few chapters will make you furiously flip the pages, until you reach the end, in which you will be left wanting more… This is a book one so you know that there will be more to come, but the ending isn’t really a cliffhanger, it’s more of a to be continued kind of ending. I didn’t feel like I was left bereft without answers as much. You know their path forward, and you wonder what adventure she will find next.
K.A. Linde did an awesome job with this one and I challenge you to pick it up and give it a try, I don’t think that you will be sorry about it in the least and you just might find yourself loving a new genre of books!
