A STARLET REVIEW: SWEET VICTORY BY GINA L. MAXWELL

Synopsis:

Sophie Caldwell might not like asking for help, but help is what she needs if she’s going to save her family business from her uncle. Her grandma left one rule for Sophie if she wants to gain sole ownership before she’s thirty—get married. Yeah, fat chance of that happening since she hasn’t had a boyfriend in years, and now she can’t get her uncle off her ass.

British-born MMA fighter Xander James has never lost a fight, and he’s not about to start now. He’s on the brink of a comeback that could make him a UFC champion, but his landlord wants to take away his last chance by shutting down his gym. Hell, no. Fortunately, his landlord’s niece has a problem of her own. Time for a proposal she can’t refuse.

My Review

It has been far too long between reads for me when it comes to Gina!  I couldn’t recommend her books highly enough!  From her very first book Seducing Cinderella I was completely hooked and smitten with her writing and her characters, and with each book they just got better.  Sweet Victory was no different.  I was smitten with her hero from the moment he walked onto the scene and I loved him till the very ending!

Sophie is a bakery owner, she’s working hard to maintain her grandmas legacy.  She’s struggling and business is declining, and her uncle is ready to sell the buildings and shut the operation down.  The only way to stop it is to get married so she gets her inheritance, and well with her track record that’s not happening anytime soon.  Or so she thinks…

Xander is finally getting back into shape and ready to get back in the ring.  He’s training day and night as hard as he can, all while he runs his business and gym.  But someone is not threatening to sell his building and he will be forced to move.  The girl he’s been lusting after for a long time is at the center of the solution, and Xander’s crazy idea just may work, if he can get her to agree.

What unfolds is comical and sweet.  Xander and Sophie have to sudden blend their lives and make it convincing.  Shouldn’t be hard right?  But she’s messy and he’s a clean freak, which brings stress to their new living arrangements… It’s cute and funny, and maddening when Xander goes all cranky on her about her “habits”.  He made me laugh and so did she.  Their push and pull at trying not to consummate their new nuptials is hysterical, they both want each other but they fight it like crazy! It’s so refreshing not to see them falling into bed from the first scene!  I love the slow builds and this one has enough sexual tension that when it unleashes you will be sweating!!!! Gina’s books are always HOT, but Xander for me was a whole new level of HOT!

I don’t want to give anything away!  You need to read this for yourself to see where all this ends up! I think that you will be surprised for sure!  I loved every single minute of this one and I highly recommend this one and all of this series!  Each of the alpha male hero’s make you swoon with delight!

About Gina L. Maxwell

Gina L. Maxwell is a full-time writer, wife, and mother living in the upper Midwest, despite her scathing hatred of snow and cold weather. An avid romance novel addict, she began writing as an alternate way of enjoying the romance stories she loves to read. Her debut novel, Seducing Cinderella, hit both the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists in less than four weeks, and she’s been living her newfound dream ever since.

When she’s not reading or writing steamy romance novels, she spends her time losing at Scrabble (and every other game) to her high school sweetheart, doing her best to hang out with their teenagers before they fly the coop, and dreaming about her move to sunny Florida once they do.
