Synopsis:

From the author of the USA Today bestselling A Little Too Far series, the first in an edgy new  contemporary romance series that follows a family on the run...

As the oldest son of a Chicago crime lord, Robert Delgado always knew how dangerous life could be.

With his mother dead and his father in prison, he’s taking charge of his family’s safety—putting himself and his siblings in witness protection to hide out in a backwater Florida town.

Fourth grade teacher Adri Wilson is worried about the new boy in her class. Sherm is quiet and evasive, especially when he’s around his even cagier older brother. Adri can’t help her attraction to Rob, or the urge to help them both in whatever way she can.

But the Delgados have enemies on two sides of the mob—their father’s former crew and the rival family he helped take down. It’s only a matter of time before someone finds them. And if Rob isn’t careful, Adri could end up in the crossfire...

My Review

This was my first Lisa Desrochers read and I assure you it won’t be my last!  I love a good romantic suspense story, and that’s what I would honestly label this one as.

Robert has been tasked with keeping his family safe, still a young man himself, trying to find his way in this new world.  His father in prison, his mother dead, Robert is how the head of the family, and an instant crime boss.  But their family has many enemies… And when those surface in an unspeakable offense against the Delgado family, Robert must make a decision to keep his siblings safe even if they don’t agree.  Now in a small town in Florida under the witness protection plan, Robert is trying to make amends with his little brother Sherm.  Since the incident Sherm can barely stand to be in the same room as Robert, let alone speak.

A strange is the one to bring Sherm out of his shell, and she’s also extremely attracted to Sherm’s older brother.  Robert ignites her interests like no other ever has… Adri, truly is a beautiful soul and she does everything that she can to bring Sherm out of himself…  Unfortunately where Robert is concerned she’s bitten off way more than she can chew.  The daughter of the local Sheriff, falling for one of the baddest boys of Chicago is not a good thing… Adri goes to some extreme lengths for a school teacher from a small town, but sometimes love leads you to do the unthinkable!

I really and truly loved Adri and Robert together they make a great combination, his rough edges to her sweet loving demeanor.  I love love loved the rest of the characters, including the twins who were always at each others throats.  I also loved how Lisa built up the story behind Adri and Robert which was his sister Lee and her love for the Delgado family arch nemesis Oliver Savoca.  I can’t wait to see what the second book in this series brings.  Overall this book was a good read.  I would have liked to have seen a little bit more at the end, but I know that we will see Robert and Adri in the rest of the series so I’m sure my lingering questions will be fulfilled…
