A STARLET REVIEW: LUCIAN DIVINE BY RENEE CARLINO

“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

An Excerpt from Lucian Divine

“Evelyn, I’ve existed for more than two millennia. In two thousand years, I have watched over so many lives. At times, more than five souls were my responsibility alone. I’ve watched all of them die. I’ve held many of them while they were dying. It’s in my nature to do that, to give peace to my souls, to look out for them when I can, to sway the good ones to do the right thing, and to protect man and life here on Earth. I’ve watched over stunningly beautiful and brilliant women, but I have never felt love for any human the way I feel it for you. You are literally the air in my lungs.”

 My Review

I love when a new year starts out with a bang with amazing books. I’m hoping Lucian Divine sets the precedence for 2017. I’ll be honest, when I signed up for this ARC- I loved the cover and I knew I LOVED Renee Carlino so I didn’t even really read what it was about. So when I jumped in and I realized what it was about, I got a little nervous.

Renee has a way of writing something and making it so different. Not like she’s writing Taboo but she’s always outside the box and I LOVE that about her. I never know what to expect out of her stories and this one was no different.

Lucian is Evelyn’s guardian angel. She’s never supposed to know he’s there and definitely never supposed to actually see him but he all the sudden appears in her life. He’s the most beautiful man she’s ever seen and completely unavailable for her to fall in love with. On top of that, he’s flawed. Who ever thought about angels being flawed?

Lucian stole my beating heart right out of my chest. I swooned so hard over him many, many times.

Isn’t it fun to think you have a super hot swoony guardian angel watching over you? ;)

I’ve never read about a guardian angel or any other kind of angel for that matter and would normally have no interest in that, but Carlino has a way of writing something I normally wouldn’t like and making me fall in LOVE with it.

Lucian is setting the bar for book boyfriends for 2017. I am 100% feeling Lucian Love and praying if God really gives guardian angels to us all- mine looks/acts just like him..
