From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.
Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.
I didn’t think he’d call me back.
I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.
Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.
Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.
A complete STANDALONE.
Ah the old drunk dial….who hasn’t been there? We’ve all done it. Old boyfriend, current boyfriend, your parents to order a chicken pizza (it’s a family tradition in my house). Of course there is usually regret the next day…well, except when we used to call our parents and order the chicken pizza. That was too funny for regret! However, I can honestly say that I’ve never looked up somebody from my childhood 13 YEARS after the last time I saw them and drunk dialed them on a random Thursday night in order to tell them off. Apparently only Rana Saloomi (yeah, how’s that for a last name?) does that.
Rana and Landon first met years ago as children. They quickly form a strong bond but are unfortunately separated without the opportunity to even say goodbye. Thirteen years later and Rana still can’t stop her thoughts from straying to her childhood BFF, Landon Roderick. Enter one bottle Shiraz, some old notes, Google and a cell phone. Voila! Instantly reconnected. Of course both Rana and Landon now have A LOT of baggage but soon realize that strong bond they forged as children has never truly left them. They find themselves diving head first into a long distance relationship, but not without a whole bunch of secrets….some whopper secrets!
I really connected with these characters and the feelings they had for each other. They’ve both been through so much, it’s hard to not feel the heartbreak and to root for their happiness. As with all her books, Penelope, makes you feel ALL the gut wrenching emotions but also throws in a lot of laughter…a butt plug is NOT a wine stopper is all I’m gonna say here Not only does she do all of this, but she throws in a twist that had me saying “Wait, WHAT did she just say?” I’m usually pretty good at figuring stuff out ahead of time but this one shocked me!
One of the things I loved most about this story is that it surprised me. Based on the title I kind of expected a funny, quirky romance. And it was those things but it was SO much more and had so much more depth to the story. I literally could not put it down. I sat on my back porch, getting eaten alive by mosquitos while I read it all in one sitting. It was just that good. This one is definitely a must read and a big 4.5 stars from this girl. I can’t recommend it enough!
