The look on his face said he wasn’t so sure of that. “He followed you to your house and he hit you with a gun. You could’ve died, Abby. I—”

“Colton,” I tried again. “I’m serious. It wasn’t your fault. Okay? And you didn’t have to come over here to check on me. I’m okay. You’ve… you’ve done enough. You got your brother and Roxy to take me home and—”

“I’ve done enough? Obviously, I haven’t done enough.” His gaze found its way back to mine. “I need to make a couple of things clear. When you left Mona’s last night, you were upset. I get that. You just saw me walk out with Nicole and you left before I could say a single thing to you. Don’t pretend like you didn’t see that.”

“Okay. You, um, seemed busy.” I swallowed, taking a step back. “So that…that’s your ex-fiancée? She’s gorgeous.”

“Yeah, she is.” His brows knitted as he stared down at me. “You know, I was hoping I would hear from you. I figured after Sunday, I was going to leave the ball in your court.”

He had? Had he given that message through man code? I wasn’t good at reading man code.

“Obviously, you need to work through some issues and I was hoping that you would let me help you with that,” he continued. “I’m impatient though. I was planning on calling you last night, but my brother does this thing every week at his place—game night. It’s stupid, but fun. I thought I’d swing by his place for about an hour and then call you.”

I didn’t know what to say about any of that, but I wasn’t going to stand here like I was mute. I had a voice and I was going to use it. “But you were at Mona’s, with Nicole.”

“I was,” he said, a muscle flexing along his jaw. “I met her there on the way to Reece’s. When we broke up, there was a watch that my grandfather had given me before he passed away. One night at her place, I had taken it off and I never found it after that. Nicole finally found it.” Lowering his one hand to the pocket of his denim jeans, he fished out a gold watch that looked like it cost a pretty penny. “She wanted to talk. That’s why we were in Jax’s office.”

I stared at the watch and then watched him place it back in his pocket. Part of me felt like an idiot, but how would anyone really react in this situation?

My Review

I’m a huge fan of the Wait for you Series and after the last book, I was seriously intrigued by Colton Anders!  I was so excited to find out that we were getting a novella about him, and well I must say I wouldn’t even have minded an full length on this character… I was smitten with him from the first moment he stepped on the scene…

This one stars out with a BANG!  Literally!  Abby is flung into a precarious situation as she’s walking home from another dismal attempt at a date.  Her love life has consisted of lousy dates one after the other… She’s trying to hard to get over her loss, but maybe she was just looking in all the wrong places. After witnessing a heinous crime, Abby is thrust into turmoil and danger, and right into the path of detective Anders.  The thing is she knows him, they went to high school together, and she’s always had a crush… *all the feels* come back to her with a flutter of how she felt about him in high school, despite having a boyfriend.  But her dire situation and the danger she’s in give them all the reason they need to reconnect.

Colton Anders is a dectective, and a damn fine one at that.  He doesn’t blur the lines, but when Abby shows up as the witness to a crime, he can’t help but think they were put in each others paths for a reason.  As the story unfolds you find out all about their past, in high school, and witness Abby come out of her shell at the hands of the very sexy, Colton.  Their hot and steamy passion is riddled with dangerous twists and turns, and you won’t be able to put this one down!

I really enjoyed their story and I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this couple, as with all of the couples in Jennifer’s Wait for you Series, I fell in love with them!  I loved that we got to see the characters from the other books, and I love how through it all they remain the best of friends and they are always there to help each other when in need.  If you love the rest of the books in this series you will love this one too!  I had very few complaints in this storyline, there were a few things that wrapped up to quickly and I would have liked to have seen more, but it’s a novella so you expect that.  Overall though I was satisfied with this one, and it’s another winner in my repertoire of Jennifer Armentrout reads!
