Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin.  Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn’t risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub.  Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him.  And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

My Review

I have to be honest to start with.  It took me a little bit to get into this book.  The beginning felt a little bogged down with the details about the IRA and all the history behind it.  It is important to understand the story and all the pieces as they come together.  By the end of the book I was truly in love with this story.  I really love KA’s writing, her style and the way she tells the story.  It’s always a slow build with a big pay out in the end.

In this one we follow Amber Welles.  We first meet her in Burying Water as she’s the sister of Jesse.  Her family is close, her dad a retired sheriff, her mom a successful doctor, and she herself a nurse.  After years spent saving she’s embarked on a whirlwind trip across the world.  Being from a small town, Amber hasn’t been afforded the luxury of seeing the world but that’s all about to change.  When we start out Amber is in Ireland, running for a tour that she’s late for, taking a short cut puts her in a dangerous path which will unite her to a future she never could have dreamed of….

River Delaney, is a beautiful mess, caught between doing what’s right, and being loyal to his family.  River’s facing some serious issues when it comes to the criminal past of his brother.  It threatens not only his livelihood, but the future of his family’s business.  But when an unsuspecting tourist gets in the path of his brothers latest crime, River has to decide to save or not to save, and for him there is no decision he has to risk himself to save her.  What he doesn’t plan for is that she will find him, and even with his seedy past, present and dangerous future, she’s throwing caution to the wind.

One thing that this book will teach you is that things aren’t always what they seem… Amber learns some truths about her family, that rock her to the core of her beliefs.  Sometimes you find that your decisions are based on need to protect the innocent, and that forgiveness for them should be granted when it’s in the best interest of others.  I really liked River A LOT, as always I’ve got another BBF out of a KA Tuker book!  He’s super sweet and I love that he struggles with telling her the truth about who he is and what really happened when they first met.  I would have liked to have seen just a little bit more time with them together right at the end of this one.  But I was still left with that warm glow, and happy feeling I always get after the angsty roller coaster ride she takes us on.  In the end I truly did enjoy this journey for Amber and River, pick up your copy today!
