A BOOK STARLET REVIEW: WICKED REUNION BY MICHELLE A. VALENTINE

Synopsis:

College sweethearts London Uphill and Jared Kraft were inseparable. He was a rising baseball star with a promising future, and she seemed destined to become “Mrs. Kraft.” Then a tragic night and a series of devastating mistakes caused Jared to walk away from his life, leaving London without any explanation and tearing the couple apart.

Five years later, Jared has reinvented himself by putting down the bat and picking up a guitar to play for the red-hot band Wicked White. In all that time, London hasn’t gotten over her forever love—or the pain—despite seeking solace in the arms of the one man no one dreamed she’d run to.

When Wicked White’s lead singer goes MIA, Jared finds the time—and courage—to return to his hometown and face the mess he made. He’s shocked at how London’s life has changed, yet he’s determined to prove their love is worth fighting for. Is this breakup too big for any hope of a reunion tour? Or can London open her heart to Jared once again?

An Excerpt from Wicked Reunion

My mouth drops open and I can’t do anything but stare. It’s like seeing a ghost—something you never in your life ever expected to see—and I just can’t look away. I resist the urge to reach down and pinch myself to make sure this moment is real.

Is this his idea of some twisted joke? I mean, there’s no way in hell that Jared Kraft is standing in my doorway with a dozen yellow roses after five years without a single word.

Shit like that only happens in movies, and my life for damn sure isn’t some glamorous fairy tale.

I stand there, staring like an idiot, while my brain tries to work out exactly what’s going on here. I furrow my brow. This has to be a dream. No way this man has the nerve to just show up here like this—not after all this time.

I step back and take a long moment to study his face. He looks exactly the same as the last time I saw him, only his hair is longer—more shaggy and unkempt—the style I’ve seen him wear whenever I see pictures of him with his band, Wicked White. To prove to myself that this really is a dream, I reach down and bunch some skin up on my arm and then pinch with all my might.

“Ouch!” I yelp as I inspect the flesh my nails dug into.

My breath catches the moment I realize that the man who used to be my everything—the man who took off five years ago, leaving me and his family behind without so much as a good-bye or piss off—is standing on my porch.

When my eyes meet his, so many questions rage through my mind, but before I can open my mouth to ask a single one, anger begins to boil over inside me. How dare he just come waltzing into my life after all this time?

My body reacts of its own accord and my hand darts out to snatch the flowers out of his hand. His eyes grow wider when I slam them down onto my porch and then smack his face as hard as I can.

 My Review

So I have been reading Michelle’s books for a long time now… They say everything gets better with age and sometimes that’s true and sometimes it’s not…. However as Michelle writes more and more I watch her talent and her story development grow each and every time.  Some might not like the softer more sensitive characters that she’s written in this series and that’s totally OK.  For me I give each and every book merits based on the books characters, the story and the feelings that the book evokes in me.  I don’t much care if it’s dark, or light and funny… I like to judge each book as it stands… I really and truly loved Jared & London’s story!  I’m a sucker for a second chance romance book, and this one has a few twists you might not see coming…

When Ace White goes missing from the band during a concert, all of the members take a much needed thought unwanted sabbatical from performing… This gives Jared the perfect opportunity to go home, a place he’s avoided like the plague since they day he walked out on everything he knew and loved.

What I really loved about Jared the most was that even though he made a colossal mistake leaving London and his family, after suffering from some really bad heartbreak, he returned and did what he could to make amends… With his mom, his brother and most of all London.  Jared feels too much, thinks a little too much, and takes actions too quickly before thinking through the ramifications of his choices.  Once he makes them though, his conviction to stick with them led him to where he is today. He’s successful, but he’s truly lonely and it isn’t until this break that he realizes just how lonely.  Jared struggles immensely upon his return to understand how things got where they are now, and how things turned out so differently than his life plan.

London has been going through the motions since the day she left Jared in a parking lot of a bar, broken and torn apart by his actions.  London has known nothing but her love for Jared all her life.  They went to high school together, they went off to the same college together, but his choice brought their love and their future crashing down around them.  London was left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart.  She turned into a loving school teacher, with her best friend by her side, and her one time ex’s family still close to her.  London made some decisions based on her need to feel loved and be loved and not all of them were the best decisions, but she’s strong and when she realizes what a mistake she made she tries to do the right thing, without destroying the only person to stand by her side through all the heartbreak.

This book is emotional, I cried when reading through it this last time for my official review.  I’d forgotten how loving Jared was and how much feeling he evoked in me.  As a reader I like to feel everything that the characters are feeling and I really did feel this one.  From the pain and anguish of Jared’s demise to the rise of London and Jared’s relationship.  I really truly enjoyed this one beginning to end!  If you like the feel good books, that take you through a bit of an emotional roller coaster I highly recommend Wicked Reunion.  It’s my favorite so far in this series!
